FOUR suspects have been arrested in the Bhoboza area near KwaMsane on Saturday for attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
The arrest was made by members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) after a tip-off about a taxi transporting suspects with firearms.
uMkhanyakude Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said when police stopped the vehicle, one of the suspects jumped out of the taxi and started shooting at the police vehicle.
‘Police retaliated and the suspect was shot and injured and three others arrested. Three rifles, ammunition and several knives were recovered during the arrest.
‘The wounded suspect was rushed to Hlabisa Hospital for medical treatment and three were detained at KwaMsane SAPS,’ Mdletshe said.
He added that another six suspects between the ages of 24 and 34 were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle on Saturday.
‘Police stopped a vehicle with six occupants and it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen from the Ntabamhlope police station near Ulundi.’
