In an attempt to address skills shortages and unemployment in the region, Scribante Africa Mining has empowered local women by providing training sessions on how to operate bulldozers.
The women came from the Macambini, Mkhwanazi, Dube and Zulu traditional authorities.
The three-month training initiative started in September and the graduation ceremony was held at the Scribante offices in Alton last week.
Scribante assessor Mlue Mthiyane said four women were hired and the remaining three were awarded qualification certificates.
‘We are confident that that they will be hired when they apply, since they have gained the expertise and they are now competent operators of heavy mobile equipment.’
