TWO suspects were cuffed and charged with possession of suspected stolen property after attempting to sell 1 380kg of steel brackets and bolts at a scrap metal dealer in Alton last week.
Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said staff at Atlas Scrap Metal Dealers informed police of two men selling the large consignment of metal.
On further investigation, the property was identified as Telkom’s, with an estimated value of R12 000.
‘The police appreciate the cooperation of scrap metal dealers and their efforts to combat the rise of non ferrous metal thefts.
‘We call on all dealers to work hand in hand with police and report all suspicious metals handed in,’ said Ferreira.
Suspects are expected to appear in the Richards Bay Magistrates Court.

I think if the traffic police would do their work and not be lazy and just drive past the trolley pushers in and around RICHARDS BAY .
Then the crime will reduce drastically.
As these trolleys are always in the middle of the street obstructing traffic. Most of them are pushing stolen goods around and the POLICE instead of removing them (as the trolleys are also stolen items) off the streets they just drive past and look the other way.
It is time that the POLICE actually did some work for the pay .
Residents of Veldenvlei must be on the alert especially on garbage disposal days. My neighbours and I have had our garden taps stolen and the water was left gushing out. People scavenging the bins earlier in the morning were still lurking around even after the garbage was taken away.
