THE bail hearing of murder accused Sikhumbuzo Mthimkhulu (40), charged with the killing of first year DUT student Nothando Malu (21) in November last year, will be finalised on Thursday.

Malu’s body was found in a sugar cane plantation by farm workers. She resided in Zidedele Village in Empangeni.

Mthimkhulu was arrested at his eSikhaleni home last month after police traced a cellphone belonging to the deceased.

He appeared in the Empangeni District Court for a bail application on Wednesday, but owing to load shedding it was rolled over to this Thursday.

On Wednesday, Mthimkhulu told the court he picked up a black cellphone lying in a dustbin at the Central Park shopping complex in Empangeni in August.

He said he took the phone home to eSikhaleni and charged it before giving it to his 16-year-old daughter.

Mthimkhulu said he is the sole owner of Simelintsha Engineering and his 50 employees were not paid at the end of November as he is the only person in charge of finances.
