Meerensee shooting and alleged kidnapping

A lovers’ tiff appears to be at the heart of a shooting and alleged kidnapping that took place at Alkantstrand just over a week ago

A LOVERS’ tiff appears to be at the heart of a shooting and alleged kidnapping that took place at Alkantstrand just over a week ago.

At about 5.30pm last Sunday, seven beach-goers were being transported home on the back of a bakkie when a white Audi A3 sport with a GP registration sped past them and stopped on the road in front of them.

The incident occurred at the Alkantstrand parking lot near the skate park.

According to police reports, the Audi driver and his two occupants exited the vehicle, walked round to the back of the bakkie and stole the phone from the only woman passenger.

Another passenger jumped off the bakkie and confronted the Audi driver, asking him why he was driving so recklessly.

It was then that the Audi driver reportedly retrieved a firearm from his car and pointed it at the man who confronted him.

After that, the man fled for the bush and it was when he was hiding out in the bush and felt blood running down his face that he realised he had been shot in the head.

The bullet had grazed the side of his head.

His friends later told him that the woman whose phone had been stolen was assaulted by the Audi driver, forcefully loaded into the car and driven away.

She was reportedly driven to a flat in Empangeni where she was locked up for a few hours before being released.

The woman was reportedly involved with the Audi driver who seemingly had a grudge to bear.

Richards Bay SAPS are investigating the case of attempted murder.
