AVBOB call for comforting poetry

Last chance to write a winning poem to comfort those in grief

ARE you a poet and can write words of comfort to those who have lost their loved ones?

If the answer is yes, this is the last chance to enter the AVBOB poetry project and competition.

The closing date is Friday, 30 November.

Those with creative minds are called to enter new poems which will be added to a collection of work on a special ABOB website.

The poems can serve as comfort for grieving families.

‘When loved ones die, they go back to join their departed ancestors, where they will stay together and keep watch over and give guidance to those of us who remain behind, which is a great comfort.

‘In times of bereavement, we seek comfort and find it in our culture and rituals. But often deep sadness remains and sometimes people who have lost loved ones, cannot find the words to express their pain,’ said Annie da Silva of AVBOB.

If a poem is selected to appear on the website, the writer will receive R300.

‘We encourage all poets to seize this last chance to craft words of comfort in their mother tongues, to reach all those in need.

Prizes in each language category comprise a trophy, R10 000 in cash and a R2 500 book voucher.
