MEC praises Empangeni church for community support

THE MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, has called on churches to take up the fight against women and children abuse.
She addressed congregants at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa’s YMG Empangeni Circuit 717, which was presided over by Bishop Linda Mandindi.
The celebration was held at eSikhaleni and was attended, among others, by former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of SA and Secretary General of the Council of Churches, Rev Mvumelwano Dandala, City of uMhlathuze Mayor Mdu Mhlongo and local councillors.
Dube-Ncube praised the sterling work the church has already done to fight against the abuse of women and children and other social ills.
‘Churches play a critical role as a reliable partner in government’s efforts to create harmony within our communities.
The spiritual nourishment they provide helps in the fight against the demons of abuse plaguing our communities,’ she said.
‘As leaders we need your prayers as we execute the will of our communities.’
Her visit to the parish was part of government’s efforts to strengthen ties with faith-based organisations.
‘The challenges we face as a province are vast and require a concerted effort across all sectors of society.
As government we will not be able to succeed on our own,’ she said.
