A 49-year-old KwaDukuza woman appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of murder, attempted murder and kidnapping.

It is alleged that in May this year, Thandiwe Masinga, together with four accomplices, went to a house in Bulwer Farm in the Newark policing precinct and kidnapped two victims.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said both victims were assaulted with bush knives, a wooden stick and stabbed with spears.

‘Lungisani Buthelezi (18) succumbed to his injuries and another victim (20) managed to flee with serious injuries.

The incident was reported to Newark police station for investigation.

‘Our members worked around the clock to find the suspects. Four males aged between 19 and 43 were arrested two months ago and taken to court, where they were remanded in custody.

‘Police investigations continued and led to the arrest of Masinga, who had fled the area.

Masinga is remanded in custody until her next court appearance on Wednesday with her accomplices.
