Police urge stokvel members to be alert

Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the busy festive season has prove to be a popular period for criminals to prey on those who withdraw their hard-earned savings

POLICE are urging community members who have been saving money through clubs and stokvels to be wary of criminals.

King Cetshwayo Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said the busy festive season has prove to be a popular period for criminals to prey on those who withdraw their hard-earned savings.

‘We wish to offer our services to assist community clubs wishing to withdraw their cash from the banks. We will have no problem in escorting them when they go to the banks

‘Our men and women in blue, especially our intelligence unit which will be led by Cluster Commander Thami Ntuli, will be all over the city’s shopping malls, ensuring the safety of our shoppers and holidaymakers.

‘It is therefore advisable to do shopping for Christmas while it is quiet, instead of waiting for the last minute rush,’ he said.

Mdlalose also warned criminals to think twice before committing criminal activities, saying ‘they will be squashed’.

‘We will take full charge of our streets and towns this festive season, and that is a promise.’
