Minimum wage increase for EPWP workers
With effect from 1 November, the daily wage rate has been increased from R88.00 to R92.31
THE Department of Public Works has increased the minimum wage for participants in the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).
With effect from 1 November, the daily wage rate has been increased from R88.00 to R92.31.
This revised minimum wage refers to a wage rate per day and per task performed across all EPWP sectors.
‘The increased EPWP minimum wage is compulsory for all public bodies implementing EPWP. No remuneration below the minimum wage will be allowed,’ said Deputy Director General for EPWP, Stanley Henderson.

‘The EPWP is a critical government initiative which makes a contribution towards a safety net to millions of South Africans who have socio-economic challenges and have the responsibility of providing for themselves and their families.’
The EPWP is a nationwide labour absorption programme which provides temporary work for the unemployed with government, contractors or other non-governmental organisations.
Last month, the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, in partnership with Public Works, awarded certificates to 119 participants who completed the programme.
The workers had received training in five local municipalities within the district.
