Ulundi man hands himself over to the police after murdering girlfriend

AN Ulundi murder suspect handed himself over to the police on Sunday, after realising that he had killed his girlfriend .

It is reported that he had assaulted her on Saturday night, before the two lovers went to bed at about 10pm.

Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said the incident occurred at Ntendeka Area outside Ulundi and he believes the deceased had been beaten with a stick.

‘On Sunday the suspect handed himself over to the police, and said when he woke up in the morning he discovered, after failing to wake her up, that his girlfriend, Sisanda Cebekhulu. had died.

‘When the police attended the scene they found the deceased lying on the bed face up. She had suffered injuries to her stomach and chest and she had blood on her mouth,’ she said

Gwala added that the suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He is expected to appear at Ulundi Magistrate’s Court soon.

In another incident, on Saturday Ulundi SAPS arrested a murder suspect and recovered a licensed firearm believed to have been used during a shooting incident.

Gwala said the both the suspect and an unnamed person were drinking in one of the taverns at Ulundi L Section when a heated argument broke out.

‘It is alleged that the two started fighting inside the tavern. Both were chased outside as they continued with their brawl.

‘A third person who had accompanied one of the men who was fighting went to his vehicle and returned with a firearm.

‘He shot the deceased on his forehead, before jumping into his car and speeding off.

‘The second man in the brawl suffered head injuries and was left bleeding on the mouth. He was rushed to hospital.

One empty cartridge was found on the scene,’ said Gwala.
