Pongola Municipality on fix it mission
The campaign was led by Mayor Winnie Nhlabathi and her 29 councillors
THE Pongola Municipality has embarked on a three-day ‘Thuma Mina’ Back to Basics campaign by fixing potholes and streetlights in the Ncotshane Township last Tuesday.
The campaign was led by Mayor Winnie Nhlabathi and her 29 councillors.
‘Our main responsibility as a municipality is to deliver services to our communities.
‘Service delivery is not only about providing residents with electricity and running water, but also to ensure that roads are maintained, leaking taps repaired and refuse removal takes place.
‘The Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs made it clear that we should visit our communities at least once a year.
‘We also want to ensure our ratepayers pay for their services. We want our communities to make use of their ward councillors to report leaking taps or uncollected garbage, and not to wait for community meetings before raising their concerns,’ she said.
Nhlabathi said while they were grateful to have dedicated police members in the area, they also wanted to ensure that all streets are well lit to discourage criminal activity.
