New era for Grantleigh

Local private school in Mposa bought by investment company Curro Holdings

GRANTLEIGH Schools have been sold to the major national Curro Holdings education group in a move which should see the Zululand private school’s reputation as a centre of excellence even further enhanced.

The move will increase in the school’s capacity, as well as see the upgrade of facilities and boarding amenities.

Curro Holdings is the parent company of Curro Private Schools, an education provider developing, acquiring and managing private schools throughout South Africa.

Confirming the agreement, Headmaster Shaun McMurtry on Wednesday said the matter was finalised and in the process of concluding minor legalities.

An official announcement will be made early next year.

‘It is premature to comment now. We cannot reveal the amount, but I can confirm that both parties have signed and we anticipate releasing an official announcement in January.

‘I can also confirm there are plans to increase the school’s pupil numbers over the next two to three years.

‘We will retain our class size of about 25 pupils, increase enrolments and establish more classrooms. We will maintain our Christian ethos and school uniform,’ McMurtry said.

He added that the real advantage is that the whole community would benefit from the new venture.

‘Over the past 16 year the school has established itself as a learning centre of excellence and this investment will enable the school to extend its services to the broader community.

‘We can now compete at a provincial level and will not lose local students to other areas.

‘With top upgrades to sporting amenities, boarding facilities, the arts and culture centre to match the Titanium (maths and science) Learning Centre, local parents won’t have to look to Durban or Pietermaritzburg for top-class education facilities,’ McMurtry said.
