‘The destroyed classroom was a park home which we used as library. All the school books kept there were burnt to ashes’
NONGOMA police are investigating a case of arson after a school library was gutted on Saturday morning.
According to teachers from Prince Silwane High School in the Mangomhlophe Reserve in Nongoma, thousands of valuable books and teaching materials worth more than R100 000 were destroyed by the fire.
One of the school teachers, who asked not to be named, said it was unclear how the fire started, but suspected a gas cylinder kept at the library could have caused the blaze.

Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said a case of arson was opened at Nongoma SAPS and no arrest has yet been made.
‘At this stage it is too early to speculate what transpired because the school has no night shift security guards,’ said Gwala.
