Ryan to the rescue

Rain did not deter spirits at the Tree of Light celebration

HEAVY rain on Tuesday almost forced further postponement of the Hospice Tree of Light event, but Amble Inn General Manager, Ryan Vermaak came to the rescue by offering his venue for those few brave souls who ventured out.

The annual carols service honours and celebrates departed colleagues, family members and friends of Hospice.

In his welcome address, Zululand Observer Editor Dave Savides paid tribute to Nelson Mandela ‘who reflected the image of the Christ who was born into the world and grew in stature as He led his people’.

Youngsters from the Crossroads Teen Centre performed a nativity play in which they recreated the birth of Jesus Christ and commented on the significance of that historic moment in today’s times.

Attendees joined in singing familiar carols, igniting the Christmas spirit for all, before heading back to the Zululand Observer premises where the Tree of Light was switched on by Hospice’s Irene Okoye.
