Three suspects have been arrested and one shot dead following a foiled robbery at a PEP store in Union Street, Empangeni.
According to reports, three suspects, two of whom were armed, entered the store this afternoon and held up staff, loading wads of cash into a black suitcase unaware that an off-duty police officer was in the store buying airtime.

While reports remain sketchy at this stage, it is understood that gunfire was exchanged in which one of the suspects was shot in the leg.

A fourth suspect, believed to be the driver of the getaway car, was arrested a short distance away.
A police officer at the scene told the ZO that the suspects were from Inanda.
They are believed to have parked their vehicle at Nandos in Maxwell Street and walked to Union Street.
The public is advised to avoid the area as the scene is still active.
