A KWAMSANE man has been arrested for the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer.
According to police reports, the 29-year-old suspect was last Tuesday at 11pm seen assaulting a girl at a local tuck shop.
The off-duty officer who witnessed the incident, intervened, separated the two and drove away with the girl.
The suspect opened fire on the vehicle of the officer as he drove away from the scene.
Neither the off-duty police officer nor the girl was injured.
The suspect fled the scene.
During an investigation into the event, KwaMsane SAPS traced the suspect and arrested him on Monday in possession of a firearm.
He is expected to appear this week at KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court.
