Community clinic creates awareness on illnesses
As September is National Pharmacy month, this provided an opportunity to market the pharmacy profession and to communicate the value the profession brings in the provision of quality healthcare
RESIDENTS of Ward 26 were educated on various illnesses and chronic conditions during the Brackenham Clinic’s open day last week, where professionals from the medical fraternity shared information and engaged with the community.
The event served as a platform for the the clinic’s Operational Manager Nursing, Nomvuyo Gumede and other medical professionals to raise awareness on conditions such as diabetes and cholesterol and to encourage regular diabetes (sugar) and blood pressure testing to manage or treat these conditions.

This year’s theme, ‘Use Medicines Wisely’ is aimed at educating the public regarding the importance of using medicine correctly to achieve quality healthcare results and members were encouraged to know their medicine, store it correctly, travel safely with it and talk to their healthcare professionals.
The community’s clinic committee, which was formed in July to address the healthcare concerns raised by members of the community, was also in attendance and supported the event.
