BREAKING: One suspect shot and one arrested in Empangeni following a business robbery

The suspects were caught hiding in a greenbelt along President Swart Avenue in Empangeni

QUICK action by members of Empangeni SAPS’ Vispol and K9 Search and Rescue Unit saw one suspect shot and one arrested this afternoon following a business robbery committed earlier today.

According to police, the two suspects held up a pawn shop in the Magazulu area just outside Empangeni at approximately 11am.

The suspects, one who was armed, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police were deployed to the area and a manhunt was launched.

They were found hiding in a greenbelt along President Swart Avenue, adjacent to the Old Mtuba Road, where one of the suspects produced his firearm and attempted to shoot at the police.

Members responded and shot him in his chest, near the collar bone.

He was taken to hospital where he is in a critical, but stable condition, while his partner was arrested.
