Matriculants, be warned: Fake WhatsApp bursary message slammed by DoE

The advert was shared widely on WhatsApp and offered 4761 matriculants a full bursary including registration, tuition, meals and accommodation

ASPIRING teachers, you have been warned: An advert circulating this weekend offering bursaries to matriculants has been declared fake by the MEC for Education, who has promised to work with police to increase his campaign against cyber crime.

The advert was shared widely on WhatsApp and offered 4761 matriculants a full bursary including registration, tuition, meals and accommodation.

‘These adverts are targeting desperate members of the public,’ said MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana.

‘We are mindful of the fact that in this information age, fraudsters are targeting people for their hard-earned money,’ he said.

‘We are pleading with members of the public not to respond to this and many other adverts as they have not been sanctioned by the Department,’ he concluded.
