District to host youth soccer tournament

The tournament which will take place at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex

TEN teams under the King Cetshwayo District Municipality(KCDM) will square off at a soccer tournament on Sunday.

The tournament, which will take place at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay in honour of the centenary of struggle icons Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.

The participating teams will be from Mlalazi, Mthonjaneni, Mfolozi, Mhlathuze and Nkandla municipalities.

KCDM speaker Cllr Khulani Hadebe said this tournament aims to unearth local sporting talent within the district.

‘Dr Nelson Mandela and Mama Albertina Sisulu would have turned 100 years old in July 2018, it was therefore appropriate to celebrate the centenary of these heroes through sports (soccer) by focusing on youth, hence the tournament is targeting players under 19 years of age.

‘The SAFA provincial chairperson and most of our sister regions’ presidents will attend the tournament,’ Hadebe said.
