Ntshona to get a proper sendoff
Tributes still pouring in for the late theatre actor and director Winston Ntshona
PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 2 for late actor Winston Ntshona.
Ntshona died on 2 August at the age of 77. The star was celebrated and remembered by fans on social media as well as close industry friends John Kani, and Athol Fugard.
Zululand playwright Sizwe Zakwe said Ntshona contributed to the arts and culture fraternity.
‘I met him when I was young at the Market Theatre. He is one of the first play actors who paved the way for us even to perform overseas,’ he said.
Well-known actor and theatre director Mthandeni Mbambo echoed Zakwe’s statement, saying Ntshona was the leading man who opened opportunities for many performers.
The funeral will take place in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality this Friday.
