41 Club celebrates 50 years
As part of the Round Table tradition, Tablers are 'axed' when they reach the age of 40, since it is a young man’s organisation
THE 41’ers Association of Southern Africa is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an annual general meeting which will take place at Imvubu Lodge from 7 to 9 September.
As part of the Round Table tradition, Tablers are ‘axed’ when they reach the age of 40, since it is a young man’s organisation.
But there is life after Table in the form of the 41’ers Association.
It is affiliated to the international association with representation in 30 countries and membership in excess of 45 000.
The Round Table family consists of four organisations that work together – Round Table, Ladies Circle, 41’ers Association and Tangent Clubs.
The motto of the 41’ers Association is, ‘May the hinges of friendship never rust and the chains of fellowship that bind us together remain unbroken’.
In this friendship organisation, support is pledged to Round Table and its charity drives.
The organisation has a Young Ambassadors Programme (YAP) that allows members to send their children between the ages of 16 and 25 overseas, where they are hosted and looked after by 41’ers from other countries.
The main objective is to experience foreign cultures and lifestyles.
Only past members of Round Table can join the 41’ers Association, so young adults are encouraged to join the Round Table organisation to improve their communities through charity projects while growing as a person and finding fellowship.
At next month’s annual meeting, current President Dave McKay of Bloemfontein will hand over the leadership to Peter Harding, who will represent the organisation as president for the following year.
This includes representing southern Africa at the international annual general meeting in Brussels in April.
The 41’ers Association calls on all past Tablers to join them at Imvubu Lodge for the Friday night theme party ‘Out of Africa’ and the President’s banquet on the Saturday night.
More than 50 guests from countries such as Austria, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland will be present.
