New library for struggling school

‘This library will form part of AHRI’s legacy at the school’

AS part of its schools engagement programme, the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) dedicated their Mandela Day 67 minutes to constructing a library at Mgwazeni Secondary School in Somkhele.

‘Rather than going to the school, doing something once off and then leaving, we wanted to do something lasting for Mgwazeni, which is why we decided on the library project,’ said AHRI Head of Operations, Clive Mavimbela.

‘The school does not have a library and all their books are all over the place, so we started with breaking down walls to enlarge one of the existing rooms on the school’s premises.

Going forward, AHRI will maintain its relationship with Mgwazeni Secondary School as part of its schools programme.

AHRI staff also conducted a general clean-up at the school, sweeping and mopping out classrooms, throwing away litter and filling ditches with rubble so cars can more easily drive and park on the school premises.
