Response teams to support schools
The DRT is an expansion of the existing Rapid Response Team which will deal with issues at district level
THE KZN Department of Education has officially launched District Response Teams (DRT) to tackle challenges affecting schools in the province.
The DRT is an expansion of the existing Rapid Response Team which will deal with issues at district level.
‘To ensure maximum outreach and proper coverage of the whole province, this multi-disciplinary team will be deployed in all 12 districts.
‘These teams will focus on giving support on a range of issues that affect schools, such as curriculum management, social ills, schools safety, financial management, infrastructure, human resources and others,’ said KZN Education MEC, Mthandeni Dlungwana.
He said education is a societal matter which requires everyone to contribute collectively towards the realisation of the dreams and aspirations of learners.
‘It is for this reason, that various stakeholders must form a solid partnership to address all challenges at some of our schools,’ he said.

Last year Dlungwana said the purpose of the MEC’s Rapid Response Team was to address instabilities in schools and ensure quality teaching and learning.
‘We want our school managers to act immediately when there are breakdowns of normality in schools and when unexpected events cause instability,’ Dlungwana said.
