I realise how crucially important renaming airports must be, especially when the SA economy has plummeted to a new low over the last nine years and the rest of the world seems to be recovering.
Taxpayers money allocated to this project could have just as easily been squandered on safety, service delivery improvements and infrastructure.
However a thought has occurred – instead of naming the airports after esteemed political figures, who knew or cared little or nothing about such places, why not name them after the original designers/builders.
This may encourage up-and-coming entrepreneurs, architects and engineers.
The prospect of a little fame and glory can go a long way to get the best out of students and young professionals.
