Inkosi Maphumulo honoured

The official unveiling started with a visit to the Inkosi's Mbambangalo Traditional Council, Maqonqo, outside Pietermaritzburg

THE late Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo, the founding President of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa), was on Monday honoured by the KZN government.

As part of the provincial Department of Transport’s project to name and rename all transport infrastructure, which include roads and bridges in the province, the department’s head office in Pietermaritzburg was officially named after Inkosi Maphumulo.

The official unveiling started with a visit to the Inkosi’s Mbambangalo Traditional Council, Maqonqo, outside Pietermaritzburg.

Among those present were KZN Premier Willies Mchunu, MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda – who laid a wreath in honour of the late Inkosi – uNdlunkulu Thobekile Maphumulo, Inkosi Nhlakanipho Maphumulo, Inkosi Victor Ngcobo, KZN Member of Parliament Zibuse Mlaba, MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation Bongi Sithole-Moloi, Msunduze Municipality Mayor Themba Njilo and the Maphumulo family members.
