‘Roger, over and out.’

School manager retires

AFTER 28 years of loyal service, Roger Johanson is retiring from St Catherine’s School in Empangeni.

As the School Manager, Roger changed the face of St Catherine’s in many ways and he ensured that functions ran smoothly and buildings, grounds and vehicles were maintained.

He was also an outstanding chef and the staff and pupils benefitted from his culinary skills at some time or another.

Nothing was ever too impossible or too menial – from unblocking sewage pipes to welding ‘ears’ on the trophies minutes before prize-giving when well-meaning helpers dropped them.

Many evenings and weekends were dedicated to the smooth running of the many events held at the school, and late night call-outs for security issues were also part of Roger’s repertoire.

He was a loving and friendly member of staff who cared greatly for each one at school, be they students, parents or staff members.

The school wish him happiness and joy (but know that his inability to sit still for long will see him altering and building things before very long).
