YOUNG girls in the uMlalazi Municipality were recently empowered with learning tools as part of their Cash Plus Care programme in eShowe.
Mayor Thelumoya Zulu convened a special meeting to discuss the programme and hand over resources.
This initiative was launched in March and is managed by implementing agent, Child Care SA.
It recruits young girls to become peer educators in all wards and educate each other about various social ills.
‘About 3 564 girls have completed sessions one and two of the programme, which is funded by the Global Fund through the KZN government, with the aim of opening a positive and educational platform for young people,’ said Communications Manager, Mkhuseli Buthelezi.
At the handover the girls received laptops, projectors and other educational tools.
