Brother killed over food dispute

‘I strongly believe that the stabbing was revenge...'

THE community of Ulundi is still shocked following an incident, involving two siblings who fought over food, when one brother ended up killing the other.

It is alleged that the argument between the two had subsided, when the suspect followed his half-brother, Xolani Thango (32) to his bedroom where he stabbed him once in the chest with a knife.

The Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala said the suspect was arrested on Saturday shortly, after the incident.

‘The attack occurred at Unit A 212 on Saturday when a heated argument broke out between the two brothers.

‘The suspect (27) was arrested and charged with murder.

‘No knife was found during the arrest,’ said Gwala.

The suspect is expected to appear at Ulundi Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday).

One of the neighbours, who asked not to be named, believed the suspect was under the influence of alcohol, as he had attended a traditional ceremony in the area.

‘There is a long history between the two brothers as it is alleged that after the death of their mother, the deceased, Thango, allegedly claimed all his late mother’s inheritance and used it on his own and refused to share it with his brother.

‘I strongly believe that the stabbing was revenge,’ she said.
