Extended Post Office hours this weekend for Sassa card swops

Empangeni, Ulundi and Sundumbili Post Offices will be opened this Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm

THREE Post Offices in Zululand will extend their operating hours this weekend to allow social grant beneficiaries to swop their old cards for new ones.

The Empangeni, Ulundi and Sundumbili Post Offices will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4pm for South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries.

‘We have deployed resources throughout the country to ensure that as many people as possible are put onto new SASSA cards before the end of August. As a result, people should not leave it to the last minute to swop their cards,’ said SA Post Office COO, Lindiwe Kwele.

‘It takes approximately three minutes to be issued with a new card once you’ve reach the card issue desk on site, so it is a very swift process.’

The new SASSA card is issued by the Post Office’s Postbank and it has been designed to prevent illegal deductions which has been an issue for many beneficiaries in the past few years.

‘The only deductions that will be allowed on the new SASSA card will be for funeral policies on non-child grants, which should also not be more than 10% of the total grant.’

‘Beneficiaries will not be charged R10 per month or any service fee when using the new SASSA card,’ said Kwele.

‘The new SASSA card is yellowish to gold in colour. One can still change to the new SASSA card even if you unwittingly accepted another card recently. It is really your choice.’
