AN Empangeni resident and ex-convict spoke exclusively to the ZO in a tell-all interview, revealing the true levels of violence – and the tricks it takes to survive hard time in a South African jail.

He says it’s true that inmates sell their bodies for sex – becoming ‘wives’ to gang leaders.

‘These men are dressed as women, talk and walk like women and are the property of other men.’
