CPF meeting date set for Empangeni

It is scheduled for 3 May at 5.30pm at the ‘old’ Council Chambers at the Empangeni Civic Centre

 MEMBERS of the newly elected Empangeni Community Policing Forum (CPF) Steering Committee will be hosting an official meeting to discuss crime trends in the town.

It is scheduled for 3 May at 5.30pm at the ‘old’ Council Chambers at the Empangeni Civic Centre.

The Constitution, which has been drafted and accepted by the Steering Committee, will be presented to the community at this meeting and upon adoption, the Sub-Forum will elect its Executive Committee, which will have the powers and authority to:

• Hold regular meetings with the community to hear complaints and concerns;

• Engage SAPS for resolutions to these concerns and complaints;

• Ensure that the Criminal Justice System is represented at community meetings;

• Meet with the Station Commissioner to address the crime in Sector One;

• Keep SAPS in ‘check’ in regards to a Police Plan to fight crime in the Sector;

• Pass any resolution or take any decision that may be necessary or expedient in order to achieve the objectives of the Community Police Sub-forum.

• Approve any communication from the Community Police Sub-Forum to the public.

‘The community attendance at this meeting is crucial, if the community wants crime to be reduced,’ said Kevin Sukreben of the Empangeni CPF.

‘It must be noted that the CPF is the only legal structure that the community have at its disposal to effectively address crime and to hold the SAPS to account.

‘The Station Commissioner will attend the meeting as well.

‘The community from only the following suburbs need to attend: Empangeni CBD; Fairview; Grantham Park; Hillview; Kildare; Nyala Park; Panaroma; Richem and Zidedele Village.
