Du Preez pulls off dream round

Du Preez, who has an official handicap of 15, wowed his mates and himself with this dream round after finding the 'sweet spot' early on

AVID golfer Hugo du Preez literally played out of his shoes when he shot seven over par to win the Individual Player Stableford competition at Richards Bay Country Club on Saturday.

Du Preez, who has an official handicap of 15, wowed his mates and himself with this dream round after finding the ‘sweet spot’ early on.

He recorded two birdies (holes 2 and 13) and seven pars during his round and carded 44 points along the way.

Enjoying some networking on the course was the SANCA Zululand team – (back) Muzi Mlondo, Ntokozo Nsele, Lihle Mhlongo, Kevin Sukreben; (front) Ntando Ncube, Shireen Sahadev, Meera Sookroo and Isabel Phenyane

A highlight of his round was his consistency of shooting 39 and bagging 22 points on the front and back nine.

This victory was a narrow one though, with M Gouws Junior coming in second with 43 points and the experienced Marie Terblanche in third with 40 points.

Local golfers will take full advantage of the long weekend and compete in the Veldenvlei Ringball sponsored day on Friday and the Rotary sponsored day on Saturday.

Players will follow a Better Ball Scramble Drive format on Friday and a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format on Saturday.
