Crack cops grab armed gang

ACTING on a tip-off, crack police units hit gold on Thursday evening when they arrested five heavily armed and dangerous suspects and recovered weapons and ammunition.

The haul also included two police field dress uniforms.

Members of King Cetshwayo Crime Intelligence Cluster office, together with members from the National Intervention Unit Rhino 8 Project, conducted the tactical intelligence operation at KwaMsane policing area, following information of a planned business robbery.

The police swooped at around 5.30pm, the success preventing the crime from being committed.

The suspects arrested were named as:

• Vusi Power Mhlongo

• Siyabonga Collen Msibi

• Lucky Mandla Hlophe

• Xolani Precious Mbuyazi

• Sibusiso Bhekemnyango Ngubane.

The weapons recoveries comprised a 9mm Norinco Star pistol with seven live rounds and a .38 special revolver with serial number filed off and six live rounds.

A case of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition plus possession of police uniforms was opened.

The suspects appeared in the kwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
