Emergency lifesaving skills showcased

A NUMBER of lifesaving demonstrations and activities took place at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre last weekend as children learned about swim lifesaving, bomb threats and fire drills.

ICE Medical Rescue, supported by the NSRI’s Waterwise Programme facilitators, showcased their invaluable emergency skills to children who were attending the Inkwazi Kids Club.

‘There is very little done by way of teaching common sense lifesaving skills at junior school level,’ said ICE paramedic Richard Schouten.

‘In years gone by children were taught what to do during a fire drill or bomb threat, subjects no longer regularly discussed in classrooms, essentially robbing children of knowledge that could easily save not only their own lives, but other people’s lives as well.’
