For the love of poetry
Blue Creatives was born out of Sbu and Sanele's love of writing
The art of poetry is seeing a resurgence in the Bay as more people are putting pen to paper to record their emotions, experiences and the world around them.
Sanele Mhlongo and Sbu Nkwanyana are two such poets who have joined forces to become Blue Creatives.
With 20 years of poetry writing behind him, Sbu enjoys writing about love and deception, matters of the heart and draws from his own life experiences.
Writing in both Zulu and English, Sbu has had some of his work read out on Metro FM, but writes more for his own pleasure than for the accolades.
‘I had an amazing Grade 7 teacher who encouraged me to write, and that’s when I started taking my writing – and poetry – seriously,’ said Sbu.
‘I love Shakespeare, and think he was a writer of note.
‘His style, language and vocabulary are genius, as is his execution of the English language.
‘In my opinion Shakespeare’s works are still relevant, they are timeless.’
Sbu feels that people these days are empty in terms of vocabulary and there is a lot that youngsters can learn from Shakespeare’s works.
Sanele has been writing for the past three years, but is a long time fan of Sbu’s work.
‘When I read Sbu’s work, it ignites a fire within me and gives me passion and motivation for my own writing,’ said Sanele.
‘I enjoy abstract poetry, writing sonnets about emotions and life experiences.’
Writers at heart, Sbu and Sanele shy away from reciting their work, but instead publish it on their Facebook page, Blue Creatives.
