THE 28th Mzingazi Women’s Institute (WI) AGM saw some changes within the committee, as co-founding member Pat Patterson stepped down as President after a total of 19 non-consecutive years at the helm.
In her president’s report, Pat recalled the highlights of the past year, which included raising funds for Empangeni SPCA, learning more about the work of the Port of Richards Bay Mission to Seafarers and donating hand-made scarves and beanies to the seafarers, as well as learning more about the work done by the NSRI.
Every year, prizes are awarded to WI members for their needlework, embroidery, art and crochet work which is judged over the year.
Erna Ellis was awarded the trophy for embroidery, Benita van Eeden was placed first in art, Koekie Labuschagne was first in the floral, crochet, craft and work of the month, while outgoing President Pat Patterson was placed first in the cookery, bottling, adult education, knitting and needlework categories.
