NINE people sustained minor to moderate injuries when four vehicles collided on the N2 just south of the Mposa intersection.
One vehicle overturned and landed down a slight embankment while another vehicle caught alight and burnt out.
Fire and rescue services were on scene to douse the flames.
Six passengers sustained minor injuries and three were seriously but not critically injured.
ICE Medical Rescue treated the patients on scene after which all nine were transported to eNseleni Clinic.
One of the vehicles was reportedly carrying three Mozambican holidaymakers who were en route to visit family in Richards Bay.
Police will launch an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
