EVERY week we read letters and articles in the Zululand Observer and other publications of citizens complaining about service delivery in uMhlathuze.
This includes the behaviour of officials, sewer and water leaks, potholes in streets, illegal dumping, and how our beautiful city is simply ‘slipping into decline’.
However, there are also many instances where we have to credit those who make a difference.
An example was the other day when I noticed a team going through Richards Bay, repairing the sensor ‘loops’ at traffic lights.
I asked them to also repair the one at the ZCBF show grounds, which has been faulty for years, and the next day it was done.
I also noticed teams cleaning up the streets, pavements and areas between properties, and just want to assure then, it is not going unnoticed.
We as citizens should also do our bit and stop throwing empty bottles, plastic bags and rubbish everywhere and out of taxis and cars, and then complain about the state of city, and expect someone else to clean up behind us.
Thanks very much to those making a difference – you are an example to others!
