RIDZ leads entrepreneurial development

The seminar was aimed at sharing information on how aspirant entrepreneurs could develop and source funding for their businesses

THE RICHARDS Bay Industrial Development Zone (RIDZ), together with the uMhlathuze Municipality, hosted a business seminar at the Empangeni Civic Centre on Tuesday to equip emerging entrepreneurs.

The seminar was aimed at sharing information on how aspirant entrepreneurs could develop and source funding for their businesses.

RIDZ CEO Pumi Motsoahae said that their main purpose was to engage with the SMMEs and to explain the benefits of being registered members.

‘Today we invited investors to meet the emerging businesses people. It is hoped the investors can help create job opportunities for SMMEs.’

At a recent entrepreneurship summit, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environment Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, announced that his department had set aside R57-million to support co-operatives and small enterprises, thereby fast-tracking their entry into the mainstream economy.

Motsoahae advised emerging entrepreneurs to visit the RIDZ offices for assistance.

One of the RIDZ beneficiaries, Thandiswa Mlaba, the founder of Asihambe Women’s Construction, said they have benefitted immensely from the RIDZ.

‘We formed our construction company in 1999 doing general construction projects, but when we joined the RIDZ, we were given the opportunity to work as subcontractors under various companies, which significantly improved our skills and expertise.

‘We now undertake major construction work and even have subcontractors working for us,’ said Mlaba.
