Know your tax status

TAXPAYERS must be alert when it comes to SA Revenue Services’ communication with them, as not responding timeously can lead to problems.

This from Jean du Toit, an attorney at Tax Consulting SA, who said SARS can, in the event of outstanding debt by a taxpayer, take money from the taxpayer’s bank accounts.

Du Toit advises taxpayers to be aware of their tax status; ensure all personal details are kept updated, and immediately deal with queries or errors.
