Boys’ fishing outing nets grisly find

Mystery surrounds a suspicious case in Richards Bay

MYSTERY surrounds the alleged discovery of human remains in a plastic bag by two Richards Bay boys yesterday (Wednesday).

Friends Dylan Atwell (11) and Duncan Nell (14) were net fishing along the river next to the Catholic Church in Veldenvlei when they saw a big white refuse bag float by.

According to Atwell’s mother Sharon, the boys grabbed the bag and opened it up, finding decomposing flesh and bones inside. The bag also contained neatly packed plastic bags and tubular shaped containers filled with what appeared to be internal organs.

After their traumatic experience the boys hurried home to tell Sharon about their find and she immediately contacted the Richards Bay police station and police officers were dispatched to the scene.

Sharon told the Zululand Observer that upon arrival at 10.30 am the police combed the scene and confirmed that the bag’s contents did in fact look like human remains which could possibly be linked to a muti murder.

At the scene the police searched a white tent pitched next to the river and according to the boys, they found handmade weapons and some dagga.

Richards Bay Police spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira was contacted to confirm details of the incident, but could not do so by the time of going to print.

  1. Scary to think! We live in that area and havesent multiple emails to have someone investigate the “new” residents I our surrounding areas. Makes you wonder who or what is in those containers. We saw the two boy fishing and actually thought back to how fun it was in our days! Just to think!

  2. My concern it could have been those 2 boys also, their lives was in danger because where was the sick fool while they were enjoying their fishing.
