TWO rhino poachers have been sentenced to 10 years in jail, without the option of a fine or any part of the sentence being suspended.
Appearing in the Vryheid court this week, accused P Khanyile was found guilty of hunting specifically protected game (black rhino), while S Siyaya was charged with possession of rhino horns.
The case dates back to a poaching incident in the Makhamisa section of the Hluhlwe-iMfolozi Park in November 2010.
Both men have already served three years and will remain behind bars for the next seven years.
• A white rhino was reported killed and dehorned in Mkuze Game Reserve on Tuesday morning. The carcass was estimated to be about three days old.
