Rain causes port truck backlog

The backlog is expected to be worked through by the end of today (Thursday)

THE heavy rain in Richards Bay on Monday was the reason for the massive congestion of trucks waiting to offload cargo at the Port of Richards Bay.

Yesterday (Wednesday) morning trucks were backed up from the port entrance to the Alton traffic lights on the John Ross Parkway.

The electronic methods used to offload trucks at the port could not be used during Monday’s rains, forcing the process to be done manually to keep within safety regulations.

Transnet Freight Rail expects to finish wading through the backlog today (Thursday).
