Rampant NRB easily tame Young Tigers
The win in front of a fair-sized home crowd takes NRB into the draw for the last 16 of the prestigious Nedbank Cup tournament
IT was a case of men against boys as Richards Bay FC thrashed lower division side Bloemfontein Young Tigers by a 5-0 margin at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The win in front of a fair-sized home crowd takes NRB into the draw for the last 16 of the prestigious Nedbank Cup tournament.
It was not a flawless display, with passages of superb passing mingled with rank bad play as they were drawn to the level of the opposition.
The match was as good as over after 20 minutes for Jean Losciuto’s side, which showed a number of changes from the usual run-on team.
First up on the scoreboard was Kulegani Madondo, whose 20th minute free kick was perfectly placed over the wall and into the top left corner.
Five minutes later it was Michael Gumede with a solo run that left defenders in his wake and gave Danile Konono in the visitors’ goal no chance as he slid it low and left (2-0).
The rest of the half was as one-sided as it could possibly be, but with no further scoring.
To their credit, the Bloem boys were far sharper after the resumption, but NRB skipper Xolani Ngcobo was on top form to deny them.
Outstanding inter-passing between Man of the Match Khayelihle Shozi and Ellesah Mensah Jnr laid it on a plate for Lebogang Shentso to tap the ball home midway through the second stanza (3-0).
Shozi then dazzled his way into the box and was brought down, with Gumede sending Kanono going the wrong way (4-0).
There was by now virtually no resistance and the final goal was again the result of superb combination play between substitute Madumetja Khwinana, Mike Gumede and second benchman Thabiso Nkoana, for the latter to gleefully hit home the final nail in the coffin (5-0).
A terrific result and Thursday’s draw will be awaited with great anticipation.
