LOCAL youngsters are currently training three times a week ahead of the Grand Slam yacht race to be held at the Zululand Yacht Club.
They are part of the club’s sailing school programme, in which 21 children are receiving instruction from qualified South African sailing instructor Gerrit Smit.
A number of them stepped up in the first Grand Slam race hosted by Henley Midmar Yacht Club, posting top ten finishes in their respective classes.
The aim of the school is to grow and make sailing an official school sport in Richards Bay, with the long-term goal of breaking the record for the most number of entries from a single club.
Anyone interested in joining the sessions or obtaining further information can contact Gerrit on 081 7234221.
