uMkhuze lions recollared
African Wildlife Vets and Wildlife ACT - Focused Conservation assisted Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife with the re-collaring of two lions in the uMkhuze section of iSimangaliso Wetland Park
MONITORING the movement of the predators in game reserves has proven to be essential, but the collars also need maintenance.
African Wildlife Vets and Wildlife ACT – Focused Conservation assisted Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife with the re-collaring of two lions in the uMkhuze section of iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
The lions were accessed easily by the Wildlife ACT monitoring team, without needing to use the ‘lion call-up’ method.
Ezemvelo vet Dr Rowan Leeming, Dr Joel Alves and Dr Gabor Lukacs assisted with the operation.
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park management authority provided the new tracking collars, purchased with money raised through the Park’s Rare and Endangered Species Fund.
The collars should last for two years before they will once again be replaced.
