SA movie screenings cancelled
SA musician Loyiso Bala was one who called for the movie to be banned

THE social media has been buzzing over the weekend regarding the latest South African movie, Inxeba – The wound.
SA musician Loyiso Bala was one who called for the movie to be banned.
The singer took to Twitter to express his disapproval, saying the movie ridicules and disrespects the wishes and traditions of the Xhosa culture.
‘If we, as a country, cannot protect our own cultural beliefs and differences, no one else will do it for us,’ he tweeted.
The award-winning movie tells the story of a young black man who returns to the Eastern Cape to help a group of young men taking part in a Xhosa ritual at an initiation school.

The film has been criticised for showing details of rite of passage, but Inxeba co-writer Malusi Bengu says no secrets were revealed.
Some also slammed the movie’s gay love story.
The movie was released nationwide on Friday and some Eastern Cape cinemas were forced to cancel screenings for safety reasons.
The film’s cast and director have apparently received death threats and Loyiso has been accused of fuelling the fire with his public remarks.
But many, including DJ Fresh, are not impressed with Loyiso’s remarks.
‘Have you seen the movie?’ Fresh asked.
The DJ also added that Nelson Mandela’s book revealed more about what happens at initiation schools than the movie.
