I WAS at the Empangeni town pool on Sunday where a young girl, name and age unknown, almost drowned.
When the incident happened, the lifeguard and another person who claimed to be a paramedic were arguing at the scene.
The child was pulled out of the pool onto her back and lay there. She was supposed to have been on her side.
I was sitting on the opposite side of the pool and could hear the two of them arguing about something.
After a couple of minutes the girl began to gain consciousness and the lifeguard picked her up and called an ambulance, just to make sure she was fine.
There must have been 30 people at the pool at the time and no one went running to see if it was their child or not. People just gathered round to see if the girl was dead.
My concerns are that children not accompanied by adults should not be allowed to enter the pool area. The lifeguard should be on guard at all times
